FUNKE Digital acquires wetter.com to accelerate digital growth and strengthen its weather portfolio
We would like to congratulate FUNKE Digital and wetter.com on the successful signing of the transaction, following which FUNKE Digital acquires wetter.com from ProSiebenSat.1 Media SE.
With this acquisition, FUNKE strengthens its position as a leading digital publisher in the DACH region and Europe and expands its portfolio with one of the most relevant platforms for weather information. wetter.com operates more than ten domains across 15 markets, including wetter.com, weather24, and meteos24, and reaches, on average, more than 25 million users with over 800 million monthly page views.
Prior to signing, OMMAX supported FUNKE Digital with a comprehensive Commercial Due Diligence for wetter.com, covering in particular:
- Market attractiveness and sustainability of the digital weather information market in the DACH region and selected European markets
- Competitive positioning and right to win of wetter.com within the European weather platform landscape
- User and audience dynamics, focusing on reach, engagement, and loyalty across web and app platforms
- Validation of the business plan with identification of key value creation levers and long-term growth opportunities, including data monetization and international expansion
wetter.com is a leading digital weather platform in the DACH region, with a strong position in both web and app. The platform benefits from high user loyalty, strong organic visibility, and a scalable, predominantly advertising-driven business model, complemented by subscription and B2B revenue streams.
The acquisition marks an important milestone for FUNKE Digital’s growth strategy. By integrating wetter.com, FUNKE further diversifies its digital portfolio, strengthens its data-driven offerings, and creates a strong basis for future value creation, including the planned development of premium features for digital subscribers.
