Shahbaz Alam is a technology value creation advisor to private equity with more than 20 years of experience across PE portfolios and large enterprises. He advises fund operating teams and portfolio company leadership across the full investment lifecycle: technical due diligence at entry, 100-day execution, transformation during the hold period, and exit preparation. His transaction experience spans carve-outs, platform builds, and add-on integrations in software/SaaS, healthcare, financial services, and business services.
His approach follows a clear sequence: stabilize first (cost, operational risk, leadership), then optimize efficiency and the data foundation, then grow through GenAI in products, new AI-enabled revenue streams, and faster product development. He led technical due diligence on more than 10 transactions, delivered 20-30% IT cost reductions across portfolio companies, and structured AI investment cases tied directly to EBITDA outcomes. His career includes senior leadership roles at Amazon Web Services, where he built and led the private equity practice across EMEA, and six years in technology consulting at PwC.
Shahbaz co-authored INSEAD research on digital and data maturity as a driver of private equity valuations and is a regular speaker at SuperReturn, PEI, and RealDeals. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, and is based in Amsterdam.
